PSYCHODYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY
Your emotions matter.
But first, you must identify what you’re feeling and talk about those feelings long enough to paint a picture of your life.
You can reshape yourself.
If you’re between 25 and 45, psychoanalysis could be for you.
Whether you choose to lie on the couch or sit across from a therapist, the goal of psychoanalysis is to provide the essential rebuilding and restructuring of your inner world.
Freud wanted his patients to lie down on the couch, so they would not look at him all day. But, the real work is done in relation to one another.
Together, we’ll discover through your dreams, associations, fantasies, reactions, symptoms, and behavior how you got to be where you are today.
Eventually, you’ll be able to make choices that are no longer self-destructive or lead to maladaptive behaviors.
Psychoanalysis is an investment in who you are, where you are going, and how you creatively tap into shaping your life.
God created each person like one of the trees of the East, planting the root of love within each.
The uniqueness of every individual matters.
Conscious awareness is one thing. But like the tip of the iceberg, which is all that the naked eye can visibly see, there is the iceberg below.
What goes on in your mind is largely out of your awareness, except for those symptoms you complain of or the behaviors that don’t make sense to you. Then, there are those conflicts and tensions that make your stomach hurt and exert a constant influence on you consciously.
Genetically, we inherit genes, but we also inherit personality traits.
We make life choices based on past experiences and relationships.
The past can interfere and be recreated in the present as a way to remember your inner world.
From a holistic perspective and 30 years of experience, I’ll listen and help you find the patterns in your emotions and thoughts.
We’ll identify beliefs for new insight to be gained.
Working at least twice a week will set the stage for you to play out and organize the pain that brought you to therapy in the first place.
What drives and motivates us is central to the work of psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
The 45-minute frame, 2 to 5 days a week, is set up to help you become aware of how simple statements can have profound implications for our understanding of the forces that drive and motivate us.
Psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic (often called psychodynamic) psychotherapy are designed to help people become aware of the unconscious forces and conflicts that underlie psychological and emotional distress.
Contemporary psychoanalytic therapy focuses on exploring one’s relationships, past, and present, including the therapeutic relationship that develops with the therapist over time.
Insights, the experience of a safe, benevolent relationship, and healing that comes out of therapy will provide you with a new framework.
See yourself, and others, from a new, more flexible vantage point. Make your decision-making process less burdensome.
Call me at (703) 356-5829, and let’s find a mutual time of the day to begin the process of unfolding. The past, present, and future are all here, for the unconscious does not tell time. Together, we will talk and redefine your pain.
